Episode 46 - Jerry Gnagy, Against the Grain

This week we welcome Jerry Gnagy of Lousville's Against the Grain Brewery to the show for what's perhaps our most irreverent show yet. Recorded the morning after the first night of Extreme Beer Fest, Jerry lets loose and tell us how, deep down, every one of us wants a shot of hot cream to the face. He also shares some questionable beers with the panel... You won't want to miss this episode. Trust us.

Episdoe FFC200 - Extreme Beer Festival with Firestone Walker & Foundation Brewing

In the first of our Extreme Beer Fest special episodes recorded live from the floor of the convention hall, we talk to Jeffers Richardson of Firestone Walker and Joel Mahaffey of Foundation Brewing.

Jeffers was the original brewmaster for Firestone. After taking a sojourn to work at Sierra Nevada, and later in the olive oil industry, he recently returned to the company as head of Barrelworks, Firestone's wild and sour facility in Buellton.

Joel is the co-founder of Foundation Brewing in Portland, Maine. He tells us about running an upstart brewery in one of the best beer cities in the country and how the brewing community along Industrial Way (which currently includes Allagash, Bissell Brothers, and Austin Street) fosters cooperation and creativity.

Episode 45 - JC Tetreault, Trillium Brewing

Episode 45 - JC Tetreault, Trillium Brewing

Boston's Trillium Brewing is one of the hottest East Coast breweries at the moment, focusing on big, hoppy beers like Fort Point & Upper Case and roasty imperial stouts like PM Dawn. We sat down with Trillium's co-founder JC Tetreault while we were in Boston a couple weeks ago for Beer Advocate's Extreme Beer Festival to talk beer, brewing, and all things Boston.

Episode 44 - Doug Reiser & Tim Gormley, Burial Beer Co.

When two-thirds of Asheville's Burial Beer Co. paid a visit to New York City a few weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to get them on the mics to talk shop for about an hour. We discussed the reason for their visit (collaborations with Other Half and Transmitter) and asked how they stand out in a scene as crowded as the one in Asheville. We also got our good friend Josh Bernstein to sit in for the sometimes absent John Holl

Episode 39 - Sam Richardson, Other Half Brewing

Episode 39 - Sam Richardson, Other Half Brewing

Brand new year, brand new show! Actually that's not entirely true. We're still doing pretty much exactly what we've always done: Chatting with brewers over black glasses filled with mysterious, murky liquid.

Today that brewer happens to be Sam Richardson of Brooklyn's Other Half. Never heard of them? We don't believe you... In fact, we bet some of you have even waited in long Saturday morning lines to get their beer, all the while snacking on greasy McFishes and delicious McDoubles. (The brewery is next door to a McDonald's near the Gowanus Canal.) We feel you. We'd wait in those long lines too. We'd eat those McFishes and plow through the McDoubles. But luckily we don't have to. Usually...

Anywho. Tune in right now to hear what Sam the Hops Man has to say about those lines, that McDonald's, and so many other topics. We think you'll really dig it. And be sure to come back next week for the second part, the other half of Other Half, with Sam's partner, Matt Monahan.

Today we're stoked to welcome the owner of one of our favorite beer bars in New York City, Dave Brodrick of the Blind Tiger Ale House in the West Village. We've been going to the Tiger for nearly a decade now (some of us remember it from the original location) and it never ceases to be awesome. That's almost purely a reflection of Dave who's been living the good life up in Vermont for the past five years, opening both the Worthy Kitchen and the Worthy Burger in Woodstock and South Royalton respectively. Dave talks to us about how he got into the bar business in the first place and divulges some transcendental meditation knowledge about how he decided to start The Beanery, a new coffee-focused brewery he runs with some of his business partners out of Smutt Labs in New Hampshire.

Episode 33 - Evan Watson, Plan Bee Farm Brewery

We're excited to have Evan Watson from Plan Bee Farm Brewery joining us this week. Evan makes beer the hard way, using only New York State ingredients and propagating native yeast strains from fruit skins and collecting them his bee hives. He talks to us about his brewery's recent relocation from Fishkill to Poughkeepsie and why he chooses to work with the natural bounty of the Hudson Valley rather than those from the Pacific Northwest and Germany.

Episode 31 - John Holl is Back

This week we welcome back John Holl. Yes, John is officially our co-host but due to his rigorous travel schedule as the head of All About Beer magazine, he often misses recordings. As a result, we decided to dedicate an entire show to catching up with his travels and adventures. We also spent some time catching up on listener mail which revealed that Justin still hasn't seen Reservoir Dogs, can't pronounce "epinephrine", and doesn't know (or care) who Jason Statham is.
